European Vacation

vienna-man-columnI’m just back today from a 12 day whirlwind trip to Vienna and Copenhagvienna-pedestrian-mallen, to attend my sister-in-law’s wedding. It was a ton of fun but I’m really happy to be home too. It’s amazing how quickly you can get used to the 6 hour time change and how slowly it takes to get your body back onto North American time!

We’ve been to Vienna three times now – one sister lives there, and it was our first trip to Copenhagen, where the other sister just moved earlier this year. Vienna is stunning. The architecture is beautiful and the shopping – especially at this time of year with the Christmas markets – is awesome. Copenhagen, on the other hand, is much plainer (although they have some beautiful buildings as well), and is brutally expensive. For instance, I’m a Diet Coke fiend and a small bottle cost me nearly 20 DKK or about $5, and I had a Harvey Wallbanger (vodka, orange juice and a touch of Galiano – y0u should try it if you haven’t yet – yum!) and it was $30 CAD! WOW. Needless to say, I didn’t really add cocktails to many of my meals or celebrations! :)

It’s certainly great to get away. Recharge your batteries a bit and enjoy some time with family and friends. It’s great for your business too. Getting in some much needed R & R from time to time, allows us to be more creative in our thinking and come back to our businesses with renewed energy and new ideas.
