Business Development: Take the Time to Plan for Growth & Success

Written on November 26, 2009 by admin

planningMany solopreneurs and entrepreneurs are so busy peddling as fast as they can to keep up with current workflow, they don’t take the time to plan for success and growth.

They are so focused on working IN their business, they forget to work ON their business.

If you can swing it, take some time away from your office every six months. Even if it’s just a trip to the local Starbucks, a change of scenery can often spark creativity and different vantage points to problems and ideas.

Think about:

  • Your successes over the last six months
  • Your challenges encountered over the last six months
  • Your goals for the next six months

Think about where you are now in your business and where you want to be in the next few months.

Then make a plan. List what needs to be done, who’s going to do it and by when. Remember, a plan is only valuable if it is implemented.

Goals and objectives should be SMARTER:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Actionable
  • Realistic
  • Time sensitive
  • Extending (stretch your abilities)
  • Rewarding

If we don’t have a plan to know where we’re going, how will we know when we get there?
